» Matt’s first memory is watching planes take off and land at a runway; he isn’t sure where or when, however, because that sight basically defined his childhood. Matt was born into the Air Force to Airman and mechanic Sam Taggart and nurse Amanda Carter Taggart. He lived on half a dozen bases in his childhood until his mom died in a peacetime accident when he was eleven; afterwards, Matt and his dad moved to a base in San Antonio, TX, where they lived until Matt went to a private boarding school in Minnesota. (Yes, Minnesota. But the place was legitimate, not a bunch of kids shoveling snow, really.) High school was also the place where Matt met Andie Emerson, and after a spectacular series of mishaps and miscommunications on both their parts, they became boyfriend and girlfriend. Then, graduation happened and they split up. Matt joined the Army after graduating in 2002, and became a medic and eventually a nurse in Afghanistan and Iraq. In the fall of 2008, Matt took his discharge papers & a position as a flight nurse with the Air Ambulance Services and Mass General. Matt and Andie moved in together recently; it’s both exciting and terrifying.
